Foot & Ankle Pain

Foot & Ankle PainjonSeptember 8, 2020January 12, 2021

After low back pain, ankle pain is the next most persistent injury.

This might sound unlikely but the classic story from our ankle patients is ‘I was told it would just get better because it is only a sprain so I thought I’d see how it goes but now it’s a big problem.’

The Milton Physiotherapist team are experts in diagnosing and grading your ankle injury. We thoroughly recommend an early assessment as evidence shows the correct treatment applied soon after injury reduces recovery time.

We frequently treat ligament sprains and they are not all the same. There are several ligaments in the ankle and the extent of damage determines the treatment. In general, use the RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) method for 48 hours and physiotherapy can begin from then.

For more significant injuries, an XRay to rule out fracture might be required and early application of a walker boot can make a huge difference in recovery time. We aim to restore movement, strength and balance once the ankle is ready for rehabilitation.

Tendon pain is another common injury we see at The Milton Physiotherapist. The classification and treatment of tendons has changed markedly over the years. We have kept up with current evidence so be assured you are getting best-practice intervention for your problem.

As with most injuries we see, early intervention makes the rehabilitation much more effective – please don’t wait months for your tendon pain to miraculously disappear!
