Neck Pain

Neck PainjonSeptember 8, 2020January 12, 2021

Despite many of us taking advantage of the outdoor environment the south coast offers, we still have more sedentary lives than in the past. We sit too much and this has detrimental effects on our neck posture.

The fatigue and lethargy sitting brings tends to lead to slumped back posture and forward head posture. For a lot of us the end result is neck pain and/or headache.

We go through a similar process as with back pain assessment, ensuring the problem is relevant to our skill-set. If necessary we will refer you for scans or to your doctor. We will determine whether the problem is related to nerve compression or other causes such as disc, joint, muscle or postural.

Treatment usually involves a combination of manual techniques and exercise therapy. Correction of poor posture can start from the feet if standing and pelvis if sitting. You might be surprised how improved posture in distant or adjacent areas affects head-on-neck posture.

David performed countless workstation assessments as a partner at Balmain Physiotherapy. This prior experience has reinforced his knowledge of posture correction and workplace ergonomics.
